Hey guys, I found out what was knocking on my truck. I think an injector failed and burned a hole in a piston. My next question now for you is what is the best way to remove the head from the engine? Im pretty sure it was injector #5, as that was the cylinder running cold last weekend when we checked temperature of the exhaust manifold at idle. That being said, I need to remove the passenger side head to check and see if I am correct. I was wondering if I have to remove the heater box and blower motor or will the head fit out the top without removing anything else? Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated as I will most likely pull the head tomorrw after work.
I also forgot to mention that it started blowing oil out thru the dipstick. Definitely something wrong
ok, thanks for the help. Im not worried about the weight, Im used to rebuilding tractor engines so it shouldnt be too heavy. Im going to pull the right head tomorrow hopefully and find out what is going on.
The only problem is, if you have to drop the oil pan,I think you have to pull the engine out. Don't qoute me on that!! I thought I read that here somewhere........ Hope things work out okay!!
Yep, if you have a wrecked piston your gonna have to yank the motor out to get to the piston rods to pull the bad piston outta the motor. If your sure the piston has a hole in it then you probably ought to save yourself the headache and yank the motor out now instead of having to do it down the road. Irregardless, best of luck
