I imagine the story book way is to pull the axle. But, I've always been able to knock out the old ones and fish the new ones in (use the lug nut to suck it into place). Never did it on a ford pickup, but don't see why it would be any different. Guess the thing to avoid is banging too much on the axle flange to get the old ones out.
