Ford 9" Rear End Stud Replacement
Hi Everyone,
The studs on my 9" rear are stripped and need to be replaced.
(Studs that hold the cover on)
Can someone tell me the easiest way to remove the old studs?
I'm thinking a ball joint press (same as wheel studs)?
Would like to hear from someone who knows for sure how to do this before taking it all apart.

The studs that hold the 3rd member on you mean? Remove the axle shafts ans 3rd member. hammer out the old ones, pick up a stud kit and also pick up some extra nuts and a bunch of washers. Put the new stud in, while hlding it in place put on a bunch of washers and thread on a nut. Keep tightening the nut till the stud has been fully pulled through, when done toss the nuts used for that as they will be trashed. After you replace the 3rd member i would check the tightness after a 100 miles or so.
