I have heard many rumors about the turboed 7.3's all the way from they are the best to maybe the worst engines ever made. If I was to put an aftermarket turbo on my NA 7.3 would I have to replace anything else and would I be better to go with a wastegated or non system. I want the best deal for the money and I do not want to ruin this engine. It is a one in a million. 91 with 76,000 original miles. My main question is would I have to beef up the engine or not.
with 76,000 you should have nothing to worry about. i think right now there are only two turbo kits to choose from ats or hypermax, banks has disconntinued thiers. They are both very good but have a few differences ats is a wastegated turbo and the hypermax is not , so your going to make more bost at lower rpms with the ats. ats is going to cost more then the hypermax will. you can hold out an try to find a used one but they dont come up they offten and when they do they are missing pieces.
dotn ask just turbo it you will be very happy withthe results expecualy if you crank the fuel up and put 4inch strait pipe on it with a ram air intake on it.
