Getting a Truck Title
that didnt help much ..... my truck was not written off, bought from a towing company or salvage yard, ....I bought it off my uncle, and he bought it off some guy he knows,
I bought a car from a friend who bought it without a title from someone else(from Alberta), I sold it to my uncle without a title, and he sold it to another guy without a title .... but that guy went to autopac or wherever he went and got one........ I didnt even write a bill of sale !!!!
I'm going to go down and try to get one this week I'll let everyone know how it goes
I'll check Manitoba's laws

Dear Joe Waldner:
Thank you for your recent email concerning a TOD and a vehicle search,
dated October 21, 2007.
In response to your inquiry, a transfer of ownership document is
required to register and insure a vehicle. You must demonstrate that
you have made all the attempts possible to obtain it from the previous
owner in order to change it in your name.
As far as a VIN search goes, we can advise you if the vehicle was ever
written off in Manitoba, however we will not have any records if the
vehicle was written off in another province, the customer retained the
vehicle for salvage or if the vehicle was written off while it had a
dealer or a repairer plate on it. If the vehicle was recently written
off, our records may not be up-to-date.
We can also check if there was any claims registered against the
vehicle, however, if there was a claim on the vehicle while it had a
dealer or a repairer plate, we would not have that information on file.
We would not have any claims record if the date of loss was prior to
July 1995.
You can call us at 985-7000 to search the VIN number. Our business
hours are Monday to Friday 7:00am to 9:00pm and Saturday from 8:30am to
4:00pm. We are closed on Sundays and Statuatory Holidays.
We appreciate the opportunity to look into your concerns. We aim to
provide the best in customer service. However, if you have any further
questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again. We'd be pleased
to help.
Yours truly,
