i only had 1 7.3 truck come in with a dead pcm with a superchip "chip" even after pulling the chip i couldnt get any real readings, the scanner didnt even recognize it as a superduty truck, it came up as a car! And it definatly was the chip cause even after strict instruction NOT to reinstall that chip he did it anyway and it got towed back in next day, under warrenty of course, because he said he didnt put the chip in yet when i scanned the truck the same thing happened and when i pulled the pcm it had fresh superglue on the chip cover......go figure
see, i had just the oppositte happen frequently. at the dealer i hated trucks with a physical "chip" such as DP or TW. they were always having problems and i didnt get paid to figure them out. if the idiots were dumb enough to let the truck get towed in with a programmer i became the *** and since i couldnt communicate with any chip installed properly i would just flash over their programmer and delete it.
of course this was only to the arrogant evil customers who thought everything was under warrenty and made that clear up front to me......long stories.
the customers who actually treated me like a real person got my undevided attention to fix there truck and IF possible, get it covered if i could prove that a chip had nothing to do with the problem, that was frequent of 7.3 customers, not so much with the 6.0 guys. for some reason the 6.0 owners up here thought they were god and i had to drop everything and fix their truck right now, work late, come in early, get it covered under warrenty and lie about the chip, stacks, lift kit, and trailer towing 2 tractors all on the same truck....... you get the idea i'll shut up now
Were dealing with a truck with superchip in it now it will run as long as you keep your finger on it but as soon as you take it off it will die is there anything you can do to it like clean the contacts? Will it run with the chip out of the Pcm?
it will run with the chip removed. Best bet is to tape the chip to the PCM to keep it snug and tight. Try using a razor blade and clean up the contacts on the PCM. good luck
Hey guys. I'm about to pick up a 2002 X (7.3). It already has the Edge (photo attached). If I'm reading this thread right I can get DP tunes on my Edge?
I have(correction HAD!) and Edge in my 97psd. I tried to reprogram it back to "stock" and it fried the PCM. Mech. at the dealer said he'd seen it a few times before - they wanted to just trash the PCM. I paid the core charge, and sent both the tuner and the pcm back to EDGE with a firm "what's the f..." letter. They gave me a new tuner and a reimbursement for the bill from the dealer. Good business on Edges part, but if you think I'm installing that programmer back in my truck, think again.
