Hello, new to board, glad to find such a useful tool. I have a question. My 99 7.3 started just find this morning, when i put it in gear, forward or reverse, it surges a bit and turns off. It did it once 2 days ago,but only in reverse, then it was fine for a couple of days. This morning it dies as soon as it leaves neutral or park. No check engine light, all fluid levels are ok, anything I can try before selling off my youngest child to have the dealer come tow it to their shop? Thanks
thats my best guess without having any PCM codes. is your Service Engine Soon light on when truck is running? If so there are problem codes in the 'puter
EDIT: Rons right. Where are my manners ? WELCOME TO FTE, gald to have you aboard.

Ya you might change out your cps, especially if you have never done so.. If that doesn't cure it, you might have a oil to the injector problem when it is cold.. I used to have a romp romp condition on my 99 until i switched to Shell Rotella Synthetic 5w-40 oil .. hasn't romped since, after putting into drive or reverse..
Again Welcome to the forum.
Thanks for the replies. When it acted up the first time on Saturday, I switched out the CPS because I knew that was a known problem, but obviously that was not the problem. I have Rotella syn oil in it. The service engine light is not on. If anyone else has any ideas I would love to hear them. Thanks
Can't seen to find the thread just now, but remember another member that had the same problem and it turned out to be a wire in the steering column shorting out when the gear selector was moved. You may try starting in neutral and see if it will start at all.
It starts fine, in either N or P, I did not think it was a TC problem at first only because it happened speratically, thought it might be a sensor of some kind instead of a mechanical failure. Right now I cannot drive it at all. It seems like the TC seems to lock up without telling the truck it did. I see a trip to the dealer in my future.
In my head...the tc lockup is electrically controlled (thus you can overrule it with a toggle switch) so if it is a short it could be sparadic. Brandon or Ron PLEASE correct me if I am wrong. This is all theory/in my head/verbal vomit so I could be way off.
Hayabusa, where are you located? I have a 25' gn with a 12,000 lb winch just sitting on the farm waiting to be used. PS - Fill out your profile so you dont have to answer where you are or what your truck is every time you post.

Trying to remember myself if the TC lock mod that some has done locks the TC by grounding it and if so, could be a short in the wiring causing it to lock. Should be a way to disable the TC just to trouble shoot it.
the TC is locked by the PCM..on the fender well you see a big group of wires one of them go down to the trans try moving the group and see if it stays running..if there is a short thats where it would be..if not it could be a soloniod in the trans..
