howdy everyone how yall doing. i have a problem i got me a new holley 4 barrel to replace my stock motorcraft. the motor is a 390 with a c6 backing it up. i put a 2 inch spacer under the carb to keep it cool and now my kickdown linkage is way off. what can i do to fix it? thanks
I have a 71 f250 390 with 2" spacer and nos plate. i made a cable
from a rollup door cable put it in rubber hose used looped end at trans. has been working fine for more than a year. 1-2 shift 4900 2-3 shift 4850 every time. 8.80 1/8th mile will do 8.50 this year.
I think we are talking about something different. We are concerned with the 2-1 shift and the 3-2 shift.
I have been struggling with this linkage as well. I have an Edelbrock 1406, and I bought their linkage kit as well. I don't have a spacer, but I still had to bend the rod a little until it fit. It feels like the truck does not shift gears cleanly. Isn't the original control all spring activated? I think that allowed the lever to snap into either position.
For now I have just disconnected the linkage and installed a ratchet shifter. It really gets in the way on the floor, and I don't like having to use it every time I need to downshift. Plus, even if I move the shifter to 1st, the truck will not downshift until I almost stop.
One of these days, I will put the linkage back in, and try to figure out how to connect it to the throttle linkage using only springs.
