Here's the edge filter or what ever you call it. I think I can see the swash plate in the hole this came from. I couldn't get a picture of it.....too small.

The filter is above the large bolt, that is on the bottom of the first pic.....The pin in the hole is attached to the bolt....

It's not the swash plate Bill, It's just a drilled hole. There is no screen/filter in there. BTW: There is a check ball at the very end of the IPR hole that the Edge filter holds in place. It's a rusty color or dark. I assume it allows the over pressured oil to escape back inot the reservior.

Here's a picture lookind down the Edge filter bore. You can see the check ball too.

Iam thinking the screen is deeper into the pump from that hole. Might have to pass thru the screen to get to that oil galley.

I posted a close up of that hole. It meets another drilled passage coming in at different angle. No filter that I can see. Maybe it's just a name. They call it a filter for a different reason, not really filter the oil but filtering the excess oil?? If debris were to get inot that opening it woud restrict the over-pressured oil to the reservoir. I'm going to pull more of it apart and get more picts.

BTW: Did you know that the Humped back doen't designate a 17* pump. This one has a flat plate. And it doesn't have a roller bearing either. It can be a bushing and still be a SD HPOP (17*). All ford remans are 17* pumps. I got this info from a parts manager at a local dealership.

Yep! Dont believe the flat vs hump cover.
You have to remove and see if its a bearing or bushing.
If that is a good pump dont go to deep into it. You may not be able to reassemble it.

The ball needs to go back in or the truck won't start. It is VERY IMPORTANT. There was nothing wrong with the pump in the pictures.

To the original poster.... that is not the drain to the IPR, it's the inlet.

The duty cycle needs checked. That is the only way we can diagnose what's going on. Once we know that, we can go further.

My bet is a bad IPR or a stuck injector poppet.

Bill, Ford remans have a Bushing not a bearing. All remans get a new (17*) swash plate and pistons. Maybe that's why this guy had to replace so many Ford remans? There are rebuilders (Hi-perf) that use the bearing.

Thanks for the heads up on the check ball. I hope there isn't anything wrong with tha pump, it's a new ford reman. Well it was before I started tearing it apart. Hehe!

Any info you have on HPOP's would be apreciated. For the most part the internals are a mystery because they don;t come apart very easy. I will be taking my old one apart after it's replaced.
