I need to know if I can mount a C trans. to a 352 and is there anything I need to do to do so or what would be a better Trans. to mount up to it as this is going in a 1959 ranchero
float, if you get the C6 from any FE style engine you are all set. That is the best one for you if you need an automatic. Look for them in 1966 or newer cars and trucks. DF
If I had this car, it would have smitties (Glasspacks, that is) and a three speed overdrive on the column, with the shifter moved to the left side of the column so my sweetie could snuggle up to me. Just an idea.
The 3-speed Cruise-o-matic/FMX can be had with the FE bellhousing too, but parts, stock, performance, or otherwise, for these are hard to come by. That's pretty much the only drawback to the FMX. Some will say that the FMX is a lousy transmission, but I have 300,000+ miles on the original unmolested, never-been-rebuilt FMX in my '67 LTD behind a '69 390 GT. The car could work beter with a performance built transmission, but it works just fine for now.
Cruise o matic/FMX transmissions have a separate bellhousing from the transmission, and the band adjustments are on the outside. The pump also runs off the rear shaft, so you can coast start at 30 mph instead of 70. Also more in keeping with the age of your car since the Cruise o matic was the first three speed auto Ford came out with, whereas the C6 came out in '66.
If your car is pretty mild you could go with the FMX. If you need a performance automatic you could use the C6 and not have a worry. B&M makes a turnkey performance C6 with the FE bell housing.
