I am having a problem with a 88 B2 alternator light flickering and sometimes staying on steady. I've had the battery and alternator checked and they are telling me they are alright. I cleaned the battey posts, block and frame connection points, replaced the negative cable, tightened the belt (which didn't seem to be too loose to begin with). Since this is an intermitten problem and I suspecting the voltage regulator and/or alternator. Any other suggestions? The problem doesn't happen all the time and doesn't seem to be affected by adding or substracting electrical loads. When they did check the battery, they said that it appeared to be low on charge. Are there any wiring points/connections that I should also check?
Did you check the connectors on the alt itself? Look for loose pins in the connector if it
isn't grabbing the blade tight enough it could lose contact. You could run a ground from the battery negative to the mounting bolt for the alt add another nut to it if it has the threads sticking out, It might not have the ground connection to match the amps it is trying to kick out on the positive side. A 10 gauge wire would probably be enough.
