I am intrested in fuel injecting my engine when i next rebuild. so when i add my twin turbos later it'll be easier to adjust to handle them... I was wondering if anyone had done a fuel injection set up on there FE's that would like to talk about them... I have found a few companys that will custom plumb a single plane manifold and i am thinking about doing that... if anyone has any previous exp they would like to share i would be happy to listen.
Garth, if you really want to do this, I'd be looking for a wrecked ford truck with an injected 460. The 460 has the same firing order as the FE series and the injectors should be big enough. You are still going to have to do some welding on intake runners to give the fuel squirters a place to sit, along with whatever other sensors and stuff the injectors need. I don't think you'll be very happy if you turbo the same engine that ran without a turbo before however, the compression requirements are too differant for the two combinations. DF
Does anybody know if there is a diagram or instruction on where to drill and what angles - that kind of stuff for making a FE into a fuel injection engine? I've always heard that fuel injection on each cylinder is the way to go.
Ok here is what i have found so far. There are a couple of companies on the net that will custom plumb the intake for you.
www.force-efi.com they will plumb a minfold for you. Here are a couple of links to help ya out as well
It does sound pretty cool to send in an intake and have it done, but the price is a little on the high side for me too. I guess I'll have to keep researching this more and hopefully come up with a better solution that helps out the wallet. Thanks for those links.
how good a welder are you?
Because.. one of those links gives a faily good disciption of how to install injectors into a manifold... i do know that you should use a single plane manifold... and the depth depends upon what injectors you use. another thing is that if you can find a wrecked 460 w/ fuel injection then you can take the computer i belive and use it (thought not sure) if not it seems like you should be able to get one programed fairly easy... and if you go for an open system you don't have to worry about most of the problems of a closed system...

Thats what I was thinking of trying to do, I don't think it would be too bad just probably takes a little time. I did see the sight that showed how to build the runners. I have an old intake that I could try it on so maybe it would work. That would be cool.
and what little eles i know about fuel injection is...
the injectors point towards the combustion chamber.
and ford or bosch style are easiest to replace.
i guess i don't know much more
=)
