The is no external way to see the difference between a 360 and a 390. Checking the stroke will determine which crank you have and that will generally let you know. You still need to measure the bore to be positive. I used 360 pistons in my 390. My 390 is a truck and had the low compression pistons. The 360 pistons only have the valve relief cutout plus they go higher in the cylinder too. With the 360 pistons and the 390 rods and crank the pistons are about .012" below the deck at TDC. That's not too bad.
im putting 360 flat tops in my 68 390 for more compression as for external parts i have a 390 with a 360 water pump and oil pan and the starter is a 360 automatic on a 390 standerd any thing fits from one to another
