There are gearsets available for the D20 3.15:1 and 4.86:1, The lower the T-case ratio the lower your gears in 4wd.
The NP435 and T18 are allmost identical, I know the 435 has a 6.32:1 first gear. I'm unsure about the T18
well
the 18 is out and sitting
435 has to be pulled.
435 little lower but with the 33's on the truck now maybe it wont make a big difference in ratio .
435 1st is lower is what i read after post..
there are lots of sites that talk about this..
Personally, I prefer the 435 (stick) but a lot of 'crawlers' are using an automatic trans. Look into the 4x4 forum listed under "list". The 205 can be "adapted" to a twin-stick if wanted.
I'll keep my 435, low gears and cruise at 60-65 mph. Don't need to speed in a lifted, soft suspensioned, short wheelbased, brick shaped Bronco anyways. And that extra point gear reduction over the 4500 is more than worth it.
