When I said the window channel...I meant the actual channel that runs up the sides of the window.
In the kit I used on my 48 the window channel that runs around the perimeter of the glass was provided. It was one long piece that you bend into an upside down horseshoe shape, work into the door recess and cut off the excess length. I found it hard to get the channel recessed enough in the area where the vent window was. Don't get the Vintage Glass kit unless you want to glue in the fuzzies. I haven't found a glue yet that will keep them in place. You really need the stock type to which Sam referred that snap into the original retainer holes.
www.Nu-relics.com has a kit to convert to no vent and power windows. I used their stuff on my 40 Ford coupe and found it to be first rate with good instructions.
Hey guys, I was reading your post and am still curious to your opinions on which one piece window kit that works the best. I am currently looking at purchasing a kit for my 51 and would rather spend the extra $$$$ to have it right and looking sharp. Thanks for the suggestions when they come.

I imagine all the kits are probably about the same. The Vintage Glass kit is okay...a bit pricey at over $350 (as of 2006 and probably higher now) but you get tinted and tempered side glass for that price and all the window channel you need to install it. The instructions suck, however, as there are parts ("L" brackets) in the kit that they don't tell you where they go or what to do with them and the glue-on fuzzies don't stay in place. They don't furnish the glue and tell you can get glue at Lowes or Home Depot but they aren't really specific as to brand or type. I used the kit in my 48 but won't ever do it again as the windows rattled, didn't go up and down without some extra handling, and while I was still trying to decide what to do about the fuzzies (dew wipes) I sold the truck. They do look good though once installed. The reason I used them was because all the vent window stuff needed replacement and it was going to cost me a bundle to replace it all. Next time I'll replace all the vent window parts...
