I have a 06 350 with only 8k miles and what appears to be blown head gaskets. I have read hundreds of posts on here that all say to replace the factory bolts with ARP studs so thats my plan. My local dealer has never done this but agreed to it. However, they said Ford will not warranty any future problems if I use aftermarket head studs instead of factory bolts. With only 8k miles they suggest I dont waste 92k worth of warranty coverage. Is this true about the warranty? Any concerns about this being the first time the dealer has even heard about the studs?
I hope this isnt a repeat issue, I really did read through dozens of posts on here first.
yup find another dealer. most of them wont do it under warranty, but there are quite a few who will.
this has been a VERY COMMON problem on these trucks, even the stock powered ones, and if this dealer is not aware of it, then they are very unqualified to work on your truck in my opinion.
Put ARPs in when the waranty is up.No good reason to make trouble with the dealer best to make friends, bring refreshments and such. You have years of waranty remaining you would have to be half mad to piz that out the window. You may miss it when its gone.If you are on a trip and an unfriendly dealer has to work on your truck it may cost you dearly.
This dealer is ready/willing/able to add the studs (at my expense) under warranty but if it would ever fail again they dont know how Ford would look at it then. They even agreed to replace both sides rather than playing Fords game of replacing only the bad side. You mentioned finding another dealer to do the work. Is that just for the experience, or is that to somehow maintain the warranty?
If they are willing to do it then I would think about having it done.. Replacing the stock studs with ARP is a surefire way of ending the head gasket issues.. The factory studs stretch entirely too much on a stock engine, let alone a modified one.. We have heavily tuned engines with ARP Studs that never break open (unless of course we seriously raise the cylinder pressure).. However under stock conditions your perfectly fine.. If your not comfortable doing it, then don't.. But most places won't give but a few 1000 mile warranty on studs.. My ford house will do it and only give 3000 mile warranty on the studs.. After that I'm on my own but I'm comfortable with it because I know now my heads won't lift..
You are one lucky man if he is your local dealer!Put them in and let them maintain the truck.Check the head it let go for a reason.Bet its not quite flat.
I have a 2005 with 28K miles on it. I am wondering if I have to remove the heads and replace the Head gaskets if I am installing the ARP studs. My goal is to leave the heads on, remove the factory bolts and install the studs leaving everything in place. My truck is stock with no programmer or chip ever installed since new. Only mods I have done is 4" turbo back (leaving the cat), sneaky pipe and Zoodad mod.
