yea i had the same thing, a ton of coolant fule getting in to the coolant it was no good, got to the point of getting like half a gallon every few weeks, when i change the injector sleeves It turned out I had 4 cracked ones
could you tell when you pulled the injector out which sleeve was bad
well see thats the thing the truck seems to me to run fine its just i get alot of smoke and some how or another i have what looks to be an oily substance coming out of the tail pipe aswell so it could either be a mixture of oil and fuel or colant and oil ... so jus to make sure i dont have a cracked cup i want to pressurzie the system and then move on to replacing all the o-rings ... im at loss with my problem im sure it cant be something that can be fixed its just my luck i have to go through alot of steps to figure it out.
Isn't oil out the tail pipe something that happens when the turbo starts losing its seals? Just trying to think where the oil would come from at the tail pipe because it would just burn if it got into the combustion chambers (and make some blue smoke). If the turbo leaks oil into the exhaust housing, it would be pushed out the pipe, IMHO.
EDIT: Oil leaking on the compressor side WOULD make it to the combustion chambers eventually, so you'd get some smoke too if it's leaking on both sides.
Izzy351 I replaced the turbo because that was my intial thought that it would be a seal that was gone in the orginal turbo ... i rebuilt the orginal one didnt work so i bought a rebuilt one from Rons turbo service ... still having the issue so im just going through the steps to narrowing down my problem hopefully im going to pressurize the system tommorow and if it holds then ill move on to replacing the injector o-rings ...
And as for being oil i cant say thats exactly what it is since the exhaust is the orginal one the truck came with so it could be any type of fluid with Soot mixed making it look like oil ...but i cant rule out that it still maybe oil ...
What is the line to the degas bottel that everyone plugs up ... does some one have a picture or a diagram of how it is done to pressurize the system. thanxs guys
The line is on the drivers side of the bottle, on the narrow end.
I was talking to a diesel mech on the weekend and asked him about your problem. I told him you where losing a little coolant and black oily substance coming from the tail pipe. He said corrosion can occur in the cooling system (the same corrosion that can effect the injector sleeves) and cause pin holes into the combustion chamber. If you pressurize the cooling system there may not be enough of a leak through the holes to show a substancial pressure loss with a gauge.
Maybe you could talk to the mech that "check out" your truck and see if he gives the same diagnosis, and that is why he told you the engine needs to be replaced.
wow well that doesnt sound to good hopefully in my case it will be something that can be replaced because if what ur saying is happening to my truck that really doesnt sound good for me. I still have not been able to pressurize the system due to work but I should be able to do that sometime this weekend. But thanks for asking around largefries
