There were some earlier posts here that linked to web sites with some excellent information on AOD adjustments. I don't have the tool, and don't know how I would use it on my truck (88 F150 Supercab AOD 5.0).
I was having a problem with very rough shifting into overdrive. After reading the articles, I decided to try to make the adjustments by trial and error, heeding the warnings that improper adjustments would fry your transmission. So I checked the TV cable and found that it has several adjustment positions. First I noted the original position so I could always put it back. Then I tried shortening and lengthening the cable with the adjustments. I finally got it so that the shifting is perfect - not mushy and not jerky. Downshift also works great. After each adjustment, I drove it a couple of miles, going through upshift, downshift, normal acceleration, rapid acceleration, etc.
I am very happy with the results, and SPENT NO MONEY!
