I have recieved a different answer from every mechanic i have talked to. I removed my driver side manifold and on replacement do i need a gasket? Does it need to be machined? One mechanic said i need to get a mechanics straight edge and then take it to a machine shop if it isnt trure.
They now make a gasket for the exhaust manifolds but I haven't seen a motor with one. If you took it loose from the head then it might be a good idea to put a gasket on. It won't hurt by any means.
There is a TSB to replace install gaskets at the heads if the manifolds are still okay. Most of the ones we get here in MA are rotted and cannot be resued and they get manifolds and gaskets every time. you cannot match a steel to steel seal more than once so install gaskets and never sieze the bolts in the heads..
The dealer removed my exhaust manifold in order to tap it for the EGT probe. When they put it back on they said they had to use the gasket as stated above. I have the receipt for it at home. I want to say it was around $20 like Bowtie said. I will try to remember to look and post the part number when I get home.
