I was at the diesel shop today. the guy there seemed pretty familar with moding out our engines. He said the best chip is a bully dog 6 position chip. He said it is the only chip that also changing the tranny flow along with the engines. I know most people here like the DP chips.
Is there anything to what he is telling me? I will still get a DP , but just looking at options.
Most if not all name brand chips or tuners will increase line pressure and change shift strategy. The DP Tuner chip will have the most power. Be aware that any chip has the potential to over power a stock transmission depending on its condition.
would the diesel shop you were at selling bullydog products? hmmm i wonder why he was talking that up?.... Go DP and never look back.. thats what i'll be getting in the spring after i get some single shots
good choice...mine hauls *** now...i pulled up to a stop light today put it on the race setting and murdered a honda civic...haha...no rice burner stands a chance.
The worst thing that many off the shelf programmers do is increase the line pressure in the tranny, over the the long run this is not a good thing. Unless you really want to buy a new tranny.

My computer will not run fast enough to tell be the price on a Bully Dog or one of the DP's. Can anyone help me out with this info.
Hey welcome to FTE. I will look up the current DP prices momentarily for you. I will not help with the BD. Not because I think it is junk, but because I didn't listen to everone here and bought a different chip. I then got a DP and I cannot recommend another.
It's that good and the customer service is top notch. It doesn't get any better. Best product and someone on the phone who will fix any problems. Well, unless your truck is not up to being chipped, but they will try to help you there by pointing you in the right direction.
BTW, if your puter is slow, this ain't the place to be. Just about everything loads faster than this site because it is so heavily used. They are upgrading as we speak. What I am saying is that you ought to be able to load the DP tuner site much easier than here.
Well, go to DP-Tuner.com and get the full low down.
Here's the skinny: Chip itself is $200 (Holds up to 16 tunes) Looks like it comes with no start, and stock no extra charge. Hi idle will be $25, and all of the other tunes are $45 unless you get into custom tuning. Have a look.
EDIT: I forgot to mention you will need to shell out $40 for the switch.

I am pretty new to this. What do you mean by tunes? Can you set it for more than one thing. I have been told that deisels come from the factory detuned. So you can get the whole works for around 300$$$.
All factory vehicles come detuned if you will. Now think about a $10k engine with a 100k mile warranty. There is lots of room for tuning to make power.
$300 will not get the whole shebang but you will get the stock, no start, hi idle and one performance tune for just over $300. If you are on a budget and don't tow, I would get the 80 econ tune. That thing made just as much power on the drag strip as my 120 tune. There are reasons for that, mostly I need to make some more mods to take full advantage of the higher tunes. So if you have little mods, 80econ would be fine for you.
Now, just to be sure, you need to at least get a Pyro gauge or risk melting a piston. Most get that, boost and tranny temp gauge. You will also want a better intake and bigger downpipe and exhaust.
Go ahead and list any mods your truck has.
Edit: whoops, forgot to answer the question. Yes, it is a chip that holds up to 16 settings/tunes. You can shift on the fly at any time and be in a race tune or an economy tune. Very handy. Tuners, unlike chips require you to park and load tunes.
