Has anyone tried this. Am in the process of doing this on my '07 Peterbilt with the lights on both sides of the air cleaners and under the cab and sleeper. I have LED cab/clearance lights but am going to replace the 1157 bulbs in the turn signals and possibly the tail lights.
Any advice or experience would be apprieciated.
Ya I have replaced all the bulbs on my truck (roof lights, turn signals, parking lams, and taillights) with LED bulbs. They look awesome and u cant see them thru my clear lenses. On the taillights you may need to run equalizers to draw more power to the bulb because they use way less energy and u may also need equalizers for your turn signals if u decided to do that...
every bulb on my truck has been up graded to LED's..even did my gauges and stock cluster with blue LED's..you do need 2 resisters..one for each turn signal..I put mine behind the tail lights to keep them from getting wet..the resister's do get very warm as well..so make sure they don't touch another wire...buy the color bulb for the same color lens..(red lens red bulb) clear lens add what color you want...I have left my parking lights on for 10 hours twice..I thought the truck would never start...turned the key and it fired right up..the LED's use very little current..I even added green eyes to my truck with green LED's..
Where else can one buy the LEDs to replace your rear lights (Turn/Brake and Running)? I saw some in a NPD parts catalog. They came in three different sizes (amount of bulbs) for the same bulb number (1157, etc.). The bigger (more bulbs) the better?
Will they work on my 1982 F250?
What size resister with what size bulb do you use?
Thanks
I almost forgot.........are they hugely brighter than your standard bulb? Sort of like those halogen bulbs they came up with that burned out fairly often?
Thanks fo any info

there a lot brighter and last alot longer then bulbs....
You can make the led light for any base bulb you want, Just break the glass add a
resistor and the leds and solder them in, for some time you will save alot of money
and you can vary the brightness and color of the leds for a custom look that nobody
else has think a blue led in the center of your 1157 like the blue dot lenses back in the day!! Look up Luxeon leds they are the brightest leds out yet and noone that I know
has them in the premade led lights, put them on your aircleaner and they may be too
bright and your truck will definately stand out in the sea of now seemingly dim led
chicken light trucks!! http://www.theledlight.com/LuxeonLEDs.html They are more
expensive but if you see one you will know why, Some bicycle headlights are using
the luxeons and you have probably seen them kind of a bluish white really bright head
light it was probably a luxeon they don't last long on battery power but we don't
have to worry about that!!
Too many part choices at the above link, plus I'm no great fabricator of electronics.
Which manufactuer has THE best and brightest product out there now?
I like the idea of those folding wing lights as you can get a bigger light into the bulb hole in the rear lens housing.
Ideas?
I got my bulbs from an online vendor called v-leds, www.frickinbright.com. The 194 bulbs were about $2 apiece and the 1157's were $20 a pair. Supposedly got a discount because I ordered 50 plus bulbs, and that was just to replace the current bulbs.
Have not done the dash lights, I'm in the process of doing all the outside marker lights, cab & air cleaner lights. Also doing the the turn signal and brake/tail lights.
