I have a 1985 Ford F250 4x4 4 Speed with a 6.9 Diesel, how hard would it be to put 6.0 or a 7.3 Powerstroke in it. The transmission no big deal i could use a ZF5 or ZF6 behind the enigne and just use the transfer case that came with the trans. I saw a 1986 F250 with a 7.3 in it on ebay
ELECTRICAL is the main concern in transforming an early truck to power stroke style. the early diesel engines were mechanical control and the power strokes are electronical control.]
its like trying to put an apple into an orange
Ive seen it done. The reason im considering this or a cummins is because of the cost of the whole thing, would i rather spend $2000 on a turbo kit or a cummins or even a powerstroke
i think you will be up over 2000 especially with a cummons swap. your best bet would be a wreaked doner truck to pull all the little things from. other wise gathing all those things can nickle and dime you to death.
get prepared for ALLOT of wiring work, you will be swapping a whole harness into a truck that wasent designed for it.
I wish I could find a cummins for $2,000. If it were me I would swap in a cummins 12v. wouldn't be much for wireing and thouse motors have huge power potentials while still maintaining reliability. Thats what I have planed for mine if my 7.3 ever dies or if I get the money and am bored with the 7.3 that'll probably have a better chance of hapenning.
Zig. I just tried to upload some pics...what a pain, any ways for some reason my "java" wouldn't let the pics upload[?] If you want, send me a message and I'll give you my email address....some one should try to make the galleries easier to upload....I think I gave less info to obtain a credit card!!
