I have a 1985 Ford F250 4x4 4 Speed with a 6.9 Diesel, how hard would it be to put 6.0 or a 7.3 Powerstroke in it. The transmission no big deal i could use a ZF5 or ZF6 behind the enigne and just use the transfer case that came with the trans. I saw a 1986 F250 with a 7.3 in it on ebay
The 7.3 you saw on ebay was a 7.3 IDI which is very similar to the 6.9 except for bore size. They weren't stock turboed until 94 and then 94.5 model year saw the start of the 7.3 powerstroke turbodiesel. I don't know how hard to would be, but it would be a cool swap!
From what I have read around here, the wiring and getting all the computerized junk to work is the hardest part. I plan on dropping a 12v cummins in my truck as they can be running with only a few wires to connect.
You would need a complete donor truck to realistically pull it off. The computer controls are why, it would bolt up to your existing trans, but it needs sensor inputs from the rear axle, throttle pedal as well as the others on the motor. It is doable, and in some ways easier since you already have a similar base in the truck, vs converting from gas or such. The pricetag could be the worst part.
