I think I would agree on the heatshield - alot of new vehicles are now being offered with heated washer fluid - works really well on bugs. Funny how times change, lol...
Woah, I've parted out a lot of 67 to 72 models and a few 73 to 79's & i dont recall ever seeing a heatshield on the washer tank, a new one on me... was it an optional item??
huh - on the old 77crew I had it looked like the washer bottle had melted as it was no where to be seen and there was a pile of what looked like melted plasic goop on the frame. Maybe it shoulda had a heat shield on it
I would have guessed that the shield was a seldom opted for option. I have only seen one in person. I cant imagine those wanting to fall off so easily??

Why would it be an option? Ford recognized that engine heat would affect the washer bottle...and the 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog says nothing about the shield being optional.
How many ppl here have a 1973/79 F100/350 they bought new? My guess..very few....so there no way to tell what happened to the missing shields.
Mechanics are notorious for removing parts like this and not putting them back on.
I don't know WHY something like this would be an option, I just know that I have seen a 200:1 ratio of trucks that don't have, to trucks that have this. I have seen my share of these trucks, I surf the junkyards regularly looking for rare good parts to buy and resell on the internet. I have seen single owner trucks come to the junkyards I buy parts from, and have not seen one heat shield. I am not saying I am an expert, just cuz I go to junkyards (or that I am an expert at all) but these must fall off hella easy. The stupid question I want to ask is WHY would a mechanic need to take the heat shield off anyways?
