overhead trip computer

I have a 2000 PS Dually and just had my overhead trip computer stop displaying any kind of read out. Has anyone experienced this and does it have a fuse or is it just wired into the vehicle monitoring systems somehow?

If you do a search about this there are a lot of posts on it. i don't know about the fuse, but from what I have read there are a few resistors that usually come loose. If you pull the computer from the roof. There will be one or more of them loose so be careful. All you have to do is re-solder them. One guy actually used super glue and hasn't had any issues.

I'd like to know more about your overhead trip comp. Is it tied into the PCM and does it calculate instantaneous mpg? Is it post market? If so, where di you get it.

I've been thinking of a 3 gauge set over the mirror for outside temp, barometric pressure, and instantenous mpg.

The trip computer is OEM from the factory, most trucks I've been in have them, so it's not somethng I added. It must be tied into a variety of sensors as it senses temp, mpg, distance, fuel left and direction. Don't know anymore than that.

I fixed mine with superglue the first time. Lasted over a year. Had to do it again, this time I did the solder thing and hope that will be the last.

Miesch's Diagnosis was right on! I took my overhad trip computer out today, one of the 620 chips had fallen off and another was hanging verticaly. A little solder and it works now. The display was a little dim at first, but, got brighter the longer it was on.
Great fix!
