Add Overhead Trip Computer

Hi All

I have 2000 Ford Excursion XLT4x4 with the 5.4L @ 135K miles. I am curios to know if I can pickup up a trip computer out of a junkyard from a limited or perhaps super duty or such and put it into this model. I presume I could just plug into the overhead dash spot above the mirror. Anyone know if this is possible. Always wanted this accessory as a toy.

Thanks for the help.

I am not 100% sure.

BUT!

I know the harness is there in mine (I don't have the trip computer in this Excursion).

You'll need more than the harness to make it work though. Up front behind the grill goes a ambient air temp sensor. I know I have the wire to plug it in but you'll have to check for that on yours.

Worth a try with a junkyard one but I'm not sure if you should spend the dough on a new one just to find out you need something else.

Which sensors besides the ambient air temp?

Not sure, none of the wires up there were even hot at all. If you had a wiring diagram Im sure it could be figured out easy.

I know when I have my plow on my temp always reads high because of the lack of air flow to the grill. The comp is not that accurate anyway.

Too much for me!

Well, if I could just plug it in, that would be worth it, but since it seems so much more is needed, not even gonna try. Thanks all for the info.
