Methanol Fuel

Hello, could some-one explain to me what Methanol fuel is, is it purely a racing fuel ? Is it harmful for your engine, as I can get it for around $1 a litre, The fuel is called Sunoco Alky , I take it it is a racing fuel, As I have not got the pistons yet for the 545 or 557ci rebuild as I have a few options to go for Compression ratio's. Heads are the Edelbrock 61649 C/J , with this fuel I take it I could run high compression eg- 12-1 or 13-1, Thanks Jamie, Oz.

yes its a race only fuel,general rule it takes twice as much alky as it does gas.

And many components on the engine and fuel system must be methanol compatible. It eats many plastics and rubber. Also absorbs water so rust can be an issue.

Not a worthwhile everyday automotive fuel. Too low mileage, too many mods required to make use of it, and it makes my eyes water at the drags.

Just my opinion based purely upon reading.
