Straight methanol injection without water?

Well, I have been thinking lately.

Would it be feasible to set up a methanol injection system without having water injection if you only inject small amounts of methanol ?
It isn't something I want to do to my truck, I just thought it would be more efficient if you could cool the compressed air in another fashion than water injection, but still gain the power from having methanol injection.

I understand how water injection works, and it is an effective power adder if used correctly, but the whole concept of placing "water on a fire" still means to me that there can be improvements to the setup to improve efficiency.

Something like (and I know this is getting rather exotic, but I just want to throw some ideas around) injecting compressed Carbon Dioxide or something similar through a jacket around the inlet manifold and onto the intercooler should (in theory) cool the intake charge sufficiently to equal the power improvements possible with a Water Injection setup.

What do all you guys/gals think?

The meth will definately cool the intake. The problem is meth will help complete the combustion of diesel and raise the EGT.

I think someone here ...... .... used a 70/30 meth water combination. He will be chiming in on this subject I am sure.

YUP--SOMEONE here did and nuked his engine before he got the injection system correct and the programming correct. Then he let it run out and nuked it again . There is a whole thread on this subject, so get your favorite beverage of choice and have a sit and read. Lots of good info on the meth injection subject.

I expect Matt to chime in.
I would like all of you to chime in.

I have just been thinking that maybe water isn't the only answer, thats all.

You can run 100%. There is a small company named SMC that makes a pure methanol injection kit.

It really doesn't matter what percentage methanol is injected into the motor; it is the overall quantity. Just as much damage can be done injecting a 20/80 mixture at 5gpm as pure meth at 1gpm, as it is the same quantity of alchohol.

Personally, if I was looking for power gains and just wanted a different type of fuel, I would go with propane. You can get away with a larger quantity of propane for more power, and come up with less EGT increase and chemical timing rattle than with pure meth. Not to mention the tank will last a hell of alot longer.

Once the meth is in the cylinder, it will go off a loooong time before the diesel fuel is even delivered to the cylinder. Same thing with propane, except for the fact that it so happens to burn a little slower and follows over into the main injection event, making a little more power by helping burn off the diesel from the added combustion heat (no, it does not chemically catalyze with diesel fuel as some companies will lead you to believe; they are both hydrocarbons). The meth will be long since burned off before the main injection.

Running either one of these with a hot tune is going to skyrocket the EGT's to the point where either water or a very very obnoxious boost level with a high duration cam will be mandatory.

As for the whole "water on fire" thing, you have to look at it this way- the water is vaporized long before combustion is ever begun- all you have in the cylinder is steam. If the system is set up properly, you can make extra power with pure water alone. A couple bags of ice in the tank will double the benefit.

Should I get a special tune from a tuner on my sct that is designed to work with a water/meth injection kit? or could my engine handle my edge juice on level 5 with a stage 2 kit from snow performance? Hey Matt hows a 49/51 mix on the 6.0 do?

You do not need a tune for water injection. 15% is good and 50/50 for the track. The more you add the higher the EGT's
