I gotta do some work on a 7.3 this weekend.. Wicked wheel.. I heard through the birdies that ya'll are managing to do them with the turbo intact.. Can anyone confirm that's possible? I know in order to get the wheel off you have to use vice grips to grab the back of the propeller.. In theory it's much easier to just pull it and go to a bench.. But if it's actually possible I may just leave it on the block.. Spares me removing a bunch of clamps and fighting with those that are seized..
What do ya'll think.. From those that did it with the turbo in place..
Its gonna be more work to do it on the truck than if you just go ahead and remove it. I started like you want to, and ended up removing it anyway. much easier, unless you really small hands, but that would make removing it easier too!
It will save you alot of time to just pull it off. It only takes about 15 min top to pull it. If your not fighting any clamps. PB blaster works really good on the V clamps.
Good luck
Billy
Looks like yanking is the key.. It appears pretty darn simple.. Remove intake/ cac tubes.. Loosin the Y.. Undo the back pipes.. pedestal bolts.. lift out careful not to loose the o-rings..
Is this a ford only part basically? Or can I get the o-rings at a parts store.. This is the first 7.3 I've dove in.. Helping a buddy put his wicked in.. I've torn turbo's apart before, thats easy part.. Just first time ive yanked one out of a 7.3 lol
