So I ordered a JL Audio Amp and four speakers this morning at a local stereo shop. I don't know a ton about car audio, I only know I want something better than the factory speakers I've got. I wanted JL Audio, since that's what's in my boat, and I'm VERY impressed with it.
This afternoon I stopped at a truck assessory shop to buy some chrome door handle covers. The guy notices I have a Pioneer AVIC-D3 and asks me how I like it. I told him I liked it a lot, and then I proudly told him I just ordered an amp and speakers for it as well.
Well, that may have been the wrong thing to say. He asked me about what I ordered, and how much I paid. I told him and showed him the receipt. He then specs out a comperable system using Memphis Car Audio speakers and an amp. It'll save me about $200 if I go with his system. The problem is that I don't know anything about Memphis Car Audio, other than what is on their website.
Can anyone provide me with a review for Memphis Car Audio? Is this equipment comperable to the JL Audio? Any help would be appreciated.
I would stick with the JL Audio, Memphis isn't bad but in my opinion JL is better. With the Pioneer head unit you should be able to hear the difference, if you were using the stock head unit you probably would not be able to tell a difference.
Yeah this question all depends on which JL or Memphis products you are looking at. They both make really good products ans some mediocre ones. In my experiences JL amps are usually overpriced.
second.. memphis makes some great speaker, i have a couple sets of 6x9s off my dodge that i'm trying to install in my superduty (yes i know 6x8 are stock) but i dont feel like selling them and buy two new sets.
Ive had expierence with memphis audio, and there stuff is pretty good, not overly priced, while little expierence with jl audio, from what i hear, they are over priced, and the memphis amps, last forever, i loaned one to a friend of mine, he rolled his car, amp flew out back window, and landed in some mud. Cleaned it up and it still works just fine. Friend also learned importance of not driving while tired and importance of bolting down Heavy objects like speaker boxes and amps. Glad to say he was not severly injured from accident
Glad to hear our friend wasn't injured. I learned the same lesson when offroading with a group of freinds. I had a large sub box (2 15" MTS Terminators with 4 midrange and 4 tweeters with an amp mounted to it) in the back of my 83 Bronco that bounced up and hit my friend in the back of the head when we hit a big bump. Dang near knocked him unconscious. After that I was sure to strap it down.
