Question WW/Turbo ???

I have installed the ww along with doing a AIH delete, EBPV delete, the wix air filter, HPX, and the CCV mod. I also have a Hypertech programer installed. The turbo shaft and the new ww have been balanced along with a new rebuild kit. I have had it all back together now for about a week now with well over 1000 miles on it already. I can tell a big diffrence with all of the mods but I am kinda disapointed on the wistle that the new wheel puts out and the spool up. I belive that my stock wheel had a much louder whistle and a faster spool up than the new wheel. When I was installing the new wheel I remember that I had to really tighten the new wheel to get the lines to line up for the balance. I read on another post that you just spin the wheel on snug and it should tighten up in normal operation. So did I over tighten the new wheel? Is this why im not hearing the loud whistle that everyone said I should be hearing?

Are you still runing the same boost psi? Meaning maybe you have an up-pipe leak somwhere? I know my WW is louder than my factory wheel ever was.

I havent ordered my gauges yet. I did pressure test both pipes and the intercooler and it held so I dont think there is a leak any were.

Have you done the foil delete? I don't know what the WW sounds like with the foil on the hot-side I/C pipe. I took it off long before I put on the WW. I really need to try and get some clips -- once you hit 10psi with it under heavy throttle, it really screams compared to the stock wheel. I've actually been thinking about that and I believe the large vanes sound like the stock setup -- you can hear the same type of high pitch whistle at spool-up. I think the smaller ones start whistling at higher turbo RPMs (which is the "scream" I hear above 10psi), so you actually get two separate "whistle loudness curves", for lack of better terms. And that's why my mileage has been so bad since I put the WW on -- I keep stepping on it to hear that whistle above 10psi...

mine has a low pitch whistle from 0 to about 10 psi but gets a little higher pitch as boost builds, but I can hear it from about 2lbs buy feathering throttle
it is definatly a different sond from stock

yeah with the foil delete and 20ish pounds of boost its hard to describe... Actually i have a video if i can get it from my friends cam corder of my last hook at the sled pull in the stock class.. I was pushing mid 20's with the WW and foil delete. Its hard to even hear the 5" exhuast over the scream of the turbo. If i can get it i'll post it up or email it to somone if interested.

I have done the foil delete before I did the ww. The only thing I haven't done yet is the muffler. I still have the stock one on. Would that make a diffrence?

Yep. Get rid of that muffler.....at least. If you can spring for a 4 or 5" turbo-back system, you'll be in real good shape. Ditching that lousy muffler makes a HUGE difference. Here's what my MBRP muffler looks like (looking down through it):

And I'd love to hear/see the pull vid -- PM me and I'll send you my email addy...

So is it possible to over tighten the ww during installation? Im thinking along the lines screwing on the ww so tight it compresses all the internal bearings and collars so it cant spin as fast as one that is not compressed or tighten as much.

So when yall installed the ww did you tighten it as tight as you could get it or did you just spin it on until it stopped?

I'm not sure about that. I could only put so much pressure on it because I did mine with the turbo installed and the screwdrivers stuck in the vanes of the exhaust wheel were the only things backing it up. You should be able to reach in the compressor housing and spin the wheel with your fingers -- it should be free and spin like the blades on an electric fan. If there's resistance, or it immediately stops, something is wrong.

I think I will loosen the wheel up so its not so tight. Surely there is a torque setting for the compressor wheel.
