98 Taurus P1309 code

Hello, I'm a GM tech who was given a 98 Taurus wagon, 3.0 12V pushrod engine. My brother-in-law gave us this car, he drove it with the SES light on for years. I've managed to fix almost all the problems except the P1309 code. A Ford guy I asked, says P1309 is the Cam sensor ( He never actually saw the car ) . The car has never had a P0340 since I've been working on it, so I assumed the Cam sensor works, & since Brother-in-law didn't care about the light being on, I don't think anyone ever toughed the sensor to have moved it out of sync. I found that there was a Ford TSB for the P1309 code, published July 1, 1999, But I can't access the info. Can anyone access this bulletin for me? Could the sensor have moved from wear, enough to cause the P1309, with no other codes? Car starts & runs fairly good, seems pretty decent overall, other than the light keeps coming on, & might be a little worse for gas mileage than I would of expected. Any ideas? Thanks, Ron

You could at night spray the plug wires with water and check for arcing from wire to wires and wires to metal and if your motor is like mine the wires go right over that cam sensor so if you got arcing to those low voltage wires it is going to screw with things. Either reroute or put split loom over them!! Scroll down a bit there is a post about that sensor going bad and throwing that code. The hold down could have come loose and let it spin abit since that sensor is used to fire the injectors if it is a bit late your not burning all the fuel maybe or if it's spraying too soon it is sticking to the cylinder walls and not burning if it's unatomized. Double check your knock sensor too if it's not up to par it might contribute. Hopefully you come to the blue oval side with your experiences with this car, If it get's running right for you. Like I always say since this car has probably sat a while run 3 or 4 bottles of dedicated gas line dryer to make sure water is not messing with it!!

Camshaft position sensor and/or synchronizer issues aren't all that uncommon on the 3.0L OHV.

Thanks guys, But since the car doesn't miss or run bad ever, I don't think there's any problem with plug wires. My thought on the cam sensor problem, was that the sensor must be working, because the car has never had the P0340 code. All the bad cam sensor & synchronizer discussion is about the P0340 code. There doesn't seem to be much discussion about P1309 without P0340. My question is, if the synchronizer is replaced but not timed correctly, what code does it set? Is there anyone out here that can access that service buletin for me? It is supposed to be for the P1309 code only for 98 Taurus.

I also just found the car has another problem. It's starting to get cold here, & we had to use the heater, but it is blowing out only luke warm air. I know the engine is reaching propper operating temperature on the scanner, so it's a heater issue, rather than a thermostat. Thanks again, Ron
