Nube questions...

Hi everyone, I'm a new member here and I need some info about a 1962 f100
that I'm thinking about buying. I'm not really familiar with "old" ford trucks and I've never restored an old car but I'm finally at a point in my life that I'm ready to have a go at it. A guy that my wife works with has the 1962 f100 that I'm thinking about buying, he inherited it from his uncle who bought it new. He doesn't know anything about it other than it's a 1962 ford so he's no help with any questions I have...My questions are #1. Is this truck considered a unibody or a regular truck, #2. Why do the tail lights/rear end look different than any picture of a 62 f100 that I can find on the internet #3. What's the availability of parts for trucks of this era. Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot, I have a lot to learn (obviously) thank you very much for any info that you can give me.

Welcome to FTE

This pickup is not a Unibody, a Unibody has the bed welded to the cab.

1957/60 Styleside beds (see lower pic from 1957/63 Ford truck parts catalog) installed on the following 1961/66's:

1961/65 F100/250 4WD / 1961/66 F350 (9' Express) / 1962/63 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F250 4WD

You need to take a real hard look at all the rust areas. Is it surface rust or rot? Replacing or welding in new sheet metal can get costly real fast. Take a look at some of the build threads and look at what some people have had to do to repair and rebuild their projects. I over paid for my truck but I made sure I didn't have any major rot areas to replace.
Beware, It's adicting,

Thank you guys very much for the info, I really appreciate it. The only rot that I can find is at the front of the hood. I'll have to learn how to do some body work I guess Overall the rust isn't very bad (surface rust mostly) I'm looking forward to getting started with this bad boy!! Thanks again guys.

just some advice and pointers, in these and as most trucks...if you fender to hood/behind hood cowl gaps are closer in the front than the back, then the cab mounts are rotted out and collapsed, you seem to be in the clear, always check under the carpet , as wet carpet causes rotted floor pans, now with that being said. it looks clean, paint needs serious touch up then a buffing but...it looks good. the chrome on the bumper looks sharp..very nice dousnt look thin...sorry that stands out to me hehe

Haha, thank you. I would say at a bare minimum it needs a good buffing
