Hi. I recently purchased an Edge Evolution about 4 months ago. Also installed an Airade intake in my 04 XLT 5.4. I've noticed the battery having a hard time to turn over gradually. Three days ago, the battery was dead. I was at a job during the day, and when I was ready to leave the battery was clicking and my factory alarm system came on. I put my truck back to stock mode and disconnected the Edge by unplugging it. I then got a boost from a friend. For the past four days the truck has been starting fine. I will connect the edge again and see what it does. Is there something else that can be draining my battery. I had the terminals cleaned, charging system chaecked out, and the battery tested and everything was fine. I called EDGE TECH and they told me it could not be their product. Could the battery be going bad even though it tests fine??? Anything else I should be looking at?
A lot of things are possible, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it's just the battery. A battery can test just fine and still have some internal problem that will make it drain/lose charge.
I can't see how the Evo would be draining the battery either. I'm guessing it's just a coincidence.
Thanks for the response. I will connect the Edge tomorrow and see what happens.
I may also look into a new battery because winter is just around the corner.
The Edge couldn't be causing the battery drain.
Your truck is an '04 and I'm assuming you have the original battery. If you get 4 yrs. out of a battery you're lucky, 5 yrs. you're really lucky. I always change mine after 3 yrs. Like VFR_Man said it can test good, but still have a problem.
My battery started very good this morning and we had a big frost. I will connect the Edge and see what happens. If there is a change in battery power,
there has to be a reason maybe other than old battery. Yes it is the original battery and and their was no load when it was tested. The battery will be 4 years old in May. I've usually had batteries last between 4-5 years. And when they would go, they would not be good the next day. Probably when the vehicle is started, the Edge draws enough power to weaken the (old) battery. I should have it checked on startup with the Edge connected and removed.
I just find it strange. I won't lose any sleep over it. Thanks for all the input
everyone!
Did anyone ever figure this out for sure? My buddy's battery was dead this morning, and it's only a year old...lol He thinks the Edge caused it since it's the only change he's made to his truck.
i had the same thing with mine... when my battery was about 2 years old. had it to the dealer 2 times, and they said it was testing just fine, but my battery had the red window. according to my dealer here, it didnt throw the "magic code" for ford ro replace it under warranty..... so much for a 3 year bumper to bumper. so, i went to wally world, gave them 80.00 for an everstart, and no more problems....

His is popping red through the looking glass, also. We put it in on Friday, and created some settings that seemed to work well. Truck sat yesterday as we took mine fishing, and today it was dead. Clicked, but no turnover. Jumped it off, and it starts now, even with the red window. Kinda' sucks if the Edge screwed his battery.
if you see red in the window the battery is one it's way out and can do alot of funny things had battery one time where if you let the fuel pump prime then start the car it would go but it you just hopped in and turned the key to start the car would never start and then need a boost. in the sight window on the battery isn't green then you need to replace i wouldn't go looking for this and that and condemn the edge for draining the battery when the battery itself is telling you it's no good. if the edge is drawing power when the truck is off rewire it so it only has power when the key is one.

The Edge is powered through the OBD-II port, so rewire it how, exactly? The battery in his truck is about 3 weeks old, and was brand new. It got replaced while it was in the shop being repaired after hitting a deer which ruined that corner of his truck. that said, I'm POSITIVE the eye on that battery was green on Friday when we hooked the Edge up. As far as your comment about me "condemn"ing the Edge goes, you're wrong. Just as wrong as trying to tell me to "rewire it". I'll hook a VAT-40 to his battery tomorrow, and I'll also find out where the draw is coming from when the Edge is plugged in. I am, after all, a technician.
sometimes when the starter or altenator are going bad, they will draw power when the engine is off. just something else to think about, since you say the battery was only 3 days old, and already red. i highly doubt it is the edge doing this, but it is something else.

Initial testing shows the Edge drawing a load all by it's self at various times. The damn thing turned itself on without us pushing a single button, with the key off, and out of the vehicle. It went to the power programming option window like it was going to set itself. 3 people saw it, including myself. If it turned itself on Friday evening, and stayed on all day Saturday, into Sunday, it will kill a battery. It pulls 12V at .8 amps.
Why and better yet, HOW does it turn itself on with no input from the owner? Has anybody else had this problem, or seen it happen? It was off, and then turned itself on. It's pulled out of the truck now, so we'll see what happens.
His starter draw is only 128 amps, and his charging system was 100 amps, at 14.2V @2000 rpms as measured by the VAT-40. Nothing wrong with the vehicle, other than the Edge.
