I did use poly bushings. I was able to knock the shells apart by screwing in a bolt and then hitting the bolt with a hammer and got lucky enough that they separated without ruining the hardware. When I sandblasted them, they turned out pretty good so I was able to use them. I may have been one of the lucky ones.
I also had to drill out new mounting holes in order for the cab to mount on the highboy frame. It's nice that the cabs have template holes for the wider mounting.
You got lucky on being able to re-use them. When I tried salvaging mine on a CA rust free truck they would not budge for nothing. I tried the bolt trick, and busted the nut the nut off the bottom side of the washer. The others I did not have much luck with, I only had the cab jacked up a foot or so, could not get any leverage on the 2# hammer to really beat it. I think next time I will just burn the bushings out, and use heat to make things expand just enough to get them to separate.
(ok, I lied, the floors were shot from leaks in the cab lights, but other than that, cherry)
I just fininshed sandblasting my cab mount retainers an hour ago. Like I said My cab is painted and setting on the floor next to the imron painted frame. Your pics motivated me to get off my butt today. Thank You
I too used the bolt in the top & crack it with a hammer( about 6 months ago). They came right out - no problem. First time for me in probably 10-12 trucks. This truck was absolutely rustless. I usually torched the whole thing apart as rust gets to them before I do.
Well My mount retainers and my engine towers are now ready for paint. I should get the Primer on tonight yet.
BTW. I had previously painted my towers with Colar Epoxy Primer and Imron Urethane Paint, then I had modify them to fit the 351W (cut and weld), And I am here to tell you that you almost can't sand blast that stuff off. Incredibly tough - Makes me happy knowing that is everything on the chassis is coated in it.
Buck, That's a super nice truck. I like the level you're taking it to. Very Sweet And Thanks again for the motivation
Nice job! Question is that the color you are leaveing your frame. Is that a regular frame paint or a inhibitor, Just wondering the grey off sets the blue nicely. And what paint are you useing. Also what is on the floor of the cab. Looks Great keep it up!
AL
Yes, the silver is the color I'm leaving the frame. It's called "chassis saver" and most people use it as a primer for the black, but I'm leaving it silver. It is a rust inhibitor paint like POR 15 or Rust bullet. On the floor, I have rhino lined it. Hopefully, with what I have done, rust should be at a minimal for quite some time. Thanks for the compliements
