Wayne, the normal 396/402/427/454 big chevy has a 6.136 long rod. I'm not sure the 502 is a tall deck, we have one at work and I'll measure it tomorrow if the customer has not already picked it up. The 366/427 heavy truck engine has taller decks for sure. The normal BBC rods are too short to be useful, but several aftermarket companies make 6.536 long rods to allow the chevy guys to use regular pistons in the tall deck block. I like the 'promod' series from Lunati. The big end of the rod must be cut narrower, and the small end re-bushed, but they work nicely with a 390 crank offset ground for a 4 inch stroke. Combine with TRW L2303 or L2245 pistons from the 428 and you are in bussiness. The pistons will need a light shave on their tops so they don't poke up through the block. If you don't want to bore 080 over use TRW L2291 forgings for the 390, you will have to cut about .125 off the tops. DF
The 502s have the regular 9.800 short deck. The truck blocks are 10.200 tall. I think the 502 is a stroked 454. Anyway, crower has a nice selection of big chevy rods in the spoertsman line. 6.136, 6.536, 6.7 and 6.8 . DF

So all factory BBC rods are the same length ? 6.136 ?
From my angle aftermarket rods are 5(+) times the cost of factory rods.
WayneFEina52, yeah the factory rods for the BBC are all the same as far as I know. If aftermarket stuff is pricey down under, have you considered 300 Ford 6 cylinder rods, or chrysler 225 slant six rods ? DF
