well I was going to buy a car to put my 390 in and build it up, but I came across and bought(practically stole) a 1970 merc. cougar w/a 351 Cleveland today. the car is almost mint, and runs great! it has a c-4 trans.
I am just going to sell the truck with the 390 in it so I can at least recover SOME money from it. I loved that 390, but I want to keep this car original and will keep the 351c, maybe warm it up a little bit.
So my big buildup plans are gone, but I will be VERY happy with this car.
So I wanted to say thanx for all the help here on this site, hope I find a 351c site as good as this!
Justin
Justin, Go to stockman's site and find the tranny pan page, I suspect you have something other than a C4 in the car. They were mostly installed behind 302s.

Hey Justin, great car! I used to own a '70 with a 351C 4V and it really hauled. They put the FMX behind these, not a bad trans. You can still get a shift kit from TransGo. Also check the torque on the intake manifold bolts, mine were a little loose. Have fun but don't forget about the trucks!
Thanx!
Stockmans page?, I am unfamiliar with it. I will try a search for it, thanx for the info.
I havn't looked at the tranny yet, I am picking the car up monday morning, it is just the 2v 351. I am completely unfamiliar with any other trans besides the c-6, but it is a 3 speed for sure. sweet looking car though, body is excellent, even the flip up grills for the headlights works great, only thing that needs attention is the interior. guy said it needed a new carburetor, but I looked and all that is wrong is the choke is not connected and it is stuck shut, no prob. all the chrome and grilles are completely straight, got the original hubcaps, I thought hey for 500 bucks, I am going for it! My new restoration project!!
Thanx
Justin
