4 days agg, I went out to start my escape and it would not start, so I gave it a little gas and it started, then when I took my foot off the gas it died,
I took off the iac and cleaned it, it seemed to help, but no totally fix the prolblem, so I bought a new one, installed it and now I have a slight surging when I start it, and it just dosent seem to be rinning right.
then the check engine light came on...
the check engine light came on and read code PO174 system too lean bank 2
so I replaced all the O2 sensors (4) and dis connected the battery for about a hour.
I started it up and it ran, but not good. I attrributed it to block learn
and drove it, still it diddnt run right. this morning , the day after I installed the o2 sensors I threw codes PO174, and PO172 lean banks and 1&2
also I was wonderint whatthe tow codes ment, and where the two o2 sensorsare located, top, or bottom. I just replaced them all, but I dont know what ones are affected by this code. are they the manifold o2 sensors, or the ones after the up stream cat? by the way it is a 02 v-6 fwd. thanks for your help]

so I checked for any vaccuum leaks, and found none, however it did sound like there was one.I removed the upper plenum and siliconed the gaskets, still to no avail. I cleared the codes, and then today threw another code, this time just bank one lean, I just dont understand it, any one know what the hell is going on with my car? I need to get it fixed, as its my only mode of transportation. I am open to any and all ideas.
Usually, if codes for both banks show up simultaneously you're looking for a cause that's common to both. Do you really have 172 and 174 at the same time? The P0172 means the rear bank is rich and the P0174 means the front bank is lean. It'd be unusual to see this. (One way of causing this would be to swap the sensor connections, don't know how easy this is to do on this car.)
po171, and po174, but I dont know if I have both now, I havent scanned them again. according to my scan tool, those codes indicate lean on bank one and two. I dont know what else to do. I thinnk that I may have to take it to a dealership and have them scan it properly and let me know what is wrong with it.
It would seem pretty definite that you have a fuel delivery problem. Could be a vacuum leak, as you have been looking for, or it could be a fuel problem. Have you checked the fuel pressure?
HAVE NOT CHECKED FUEL PRESSURE, HOWEVER THE RUN-ABILITY PROLBLEM IS DOWN LOW, IDLE TO ABOUT 2000 RPM, IF i STUFF IT TI WILL TO THE 7000 ISH SHIFT POINT, NO HESITATION. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THEY EVER HAD A PROLBLEM WITH THE INTAKES SEPERATING AND THE MOLD LINES, MINE LOOKED FUNNY, BUT i DONT KNOW IF THAT IS HOW IT IS SUPOSED TO LOOK, i AM THINKING VACCUUM LEAK, BUT i CANT FIND IT.i HAVE SYSTEMATICALLY REMOVED ALL VACCUUM LINES FROM THE INTAKE WHILE IT IS RUNNING, AND PLUGGED THEM AND THE INTAKE OFF, AND THERE IS NO CHANGE , BUT i THINK THAT i CA STILL HEAR THE LEAK. AND OTHER IDEAS i AM OPEN TO
ONE WICKED ELEMENT, YOU EAT CHICKEN FAJHITAS!!! ( he is my brother)
ok so I took it to the dealer ship yeaterday, and found a few intersting things out. first, the techs at dave knapp ford dokt know anything.and second that I had a vaccuum leak on my lower intake gaskets. they charged me three hours to replace them, and a one hundred dollar diag fee. total fees 500 dollars, great!
then they told me that it would run rough as I had a open element air filter. rough was not the word, it would idle between 400-2000 rpms, constantlly surging, they then demonstrated that by wraping 12 shop rags around my air filter that it ran better. I pulled out of the dealer ship and my escape would not do fourty miles an hour. I went home and found thatthere was greese smeared all in my maf, once I cleaned it out, it ran much better, however now it will not run smooth with my open element on it, it ran fine with it on it for 5 months, but now it will not , I enevitabally installed my factory air box, which made it run great again, but the thing that I dont understand is how for 5 months it ran better than stosk with a open element on it, but now it runs like crap with it on it? I contacted the dealership and asked to be reimbursed for SOME of the labor as I still had to work on my car after I picked it up, and I had to clean up there mess. I will post later and let you all know what happens there. they told me that the vaccuum leak was caused by poor gaskets, even though they were fle pro gaskets, and were oem spec. god bless the all mighty ford dealerships!
