2002 F150 trouble code PO174

Folks looking for some experience/recommendations for the "what to do" and "in what order" for an error code. Recently the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light came on and has stayed on for the last 2 weeks. It has don this before after a heavy rain but went off after a few days but not this time. I took it to Advance Auto who hooked it up to a Trouble Code Reader and got back "PO174- Bank 2 system to lean". From what I've read from the Haynes book and other forum postings this is either a O2 sensor issue or a intake manifold gasket issue? Does this sound right? Next is how to go about addressing this issue in a systematic manner so as not "fix" 10 things that don't need fixing and not running to mechanic and paying a buttload for something I can do myself for less. Any help and advice would be appreciated.

thanks

The last part of your post comes first.
Understanding is what you don't have at this point that creates the 10 things deal by changing parts for a guess and hope.
First, an OX sensor is NOT the cause of a code 174.
It is the way the system detects the issue is by the OX sensor reporting it.
There is no other way.
Mis-interpetation of the codes are a big cause of waisting money and time.
Feel and look at all the rubber parts and lines attached to the intake manifold for being hard, split, off etc.
When that is satisfied, clear the code and see what comes back then proceed to other possibilities if it does.
An air leak for one bank is rare and would have to be excessive air into one cylinder intake tract or even a leak in the exhaust for that bank for which you might even hear it..
A step further is to look at the long term fuel trim reading for both banks to see if both or one side is being affected, for a more positive idea of what your looking for..
Good luck.
