What are the differeneces between a 300 inline from 82 and 85?
I have an 85 and want to rebuild the engine, but can get one from an 82 so that I can rebuild and have it ready as soon as I pull the old one out.
What to do?
Rather than re-write, read this post: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...into-65-a.html
Obviously, your truck will have fewer issues, but keep all of that thread in mind. The oil pan will most likely not be an issue with your truck, but grab the entire engine if you can. Your '85 will most likely have the TFI ignition, most here (& me) will recomend converting to the DSII that the '82 will have. Should be a straitforward affair.

Very little difference overall, but the 82 should have goodies like an all metal timing gear set which you can re-use. There's also the HUGE advantage of building one engine while the old one still drives you around.
There is nothing realy different that will compound the replacement at all. With the 82 you get a metal timing gear which is an added bonous, but all the parts will swap across.
