Oil pan differences

I have a 1976 F250 4x4 with a 300 in it. I rebuilt the engine this year and discovered an oil leak coming from the rear area of the oil pan gasket. I removed the engine to fix the leak only to discover the pan is not useable and needs replacing due to it being warped and not conforming to the block very good. It is a rear sump pan with the dipstick plate rivoted on the left side of it. I am having no luck finding one. Both Napa and our local Ford dealer say the same thing and that is the F250 4x4 trucks up to early 1977 used this pan and both could only get the mid sump pan, 2wd pan. I've tried mocking a mid sump pan up in the truck but the front of the pan will hit the engine crossmember. Any ideas? Thanks very much.

I have a '79 300 in my '84 & had the same problem. I had to get my oil pan from a wrecking yard. All 4x4s with 300s till about '79, that I've seen anyway, had this style of pan. Also, after '80 or so, looks like most, if not all trucks (not sure about vans though) had a rear sump pan. 300s didn't have the rear dipstick hole in the block till about '83 or so, so look for any one of these trucks with a 300 & you might find one. Aslo, just a thought, if I remember right, the dipstick plate in the pan is rivited on, you might be able to get a newer pan & graft on the plate? Just a thought.

Well, I've figured out the correct oil pan and fixed the leak. Edwin's advice on the 80-82 oil pan is what I used. I bought it at Autozone for a measly $86. However, the pickup tube from my '76 rear sump did not clear the '80 rear sump oil pan (the pans have a slightly different transision where the sumps meet the rest of the pan). So, I just purchased the correct year ('80) pickup tube, installed a 1 piece rubber gasket and cannot be happier!! Thanks for your help Edwin.
