Personal Responsibility out the window!

It seems the state of Kentucky is suing Purdue Pharma, maker of OxyContin because of widespread abuse.

Article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21136782/

What's next, the blind suing a website...oh wait, that's another thread...

I asy make it cheap and hand it to anyone who wants it!
The problem isn't dead white trash (heck, the herd needs thinning!) but the crimes associated with them trying to score.

I would MUCH prefer they have synthetic opiates to keep them docile than they switch to meth and menace the rest of us.

Why not sue the FDA? They approved it for use.

Why not sue the people who got hooked on it and decided to sue the company for wasting my time and the time of everyone involved in the lawsuit. Also, sue them for cluttering up the courts because of they are not accountable for their actions. hmm...

so many people are hooked on that drug, and variations in my town. even my own dad is, in which he just a couple of months ago got fired from his great job because of it.

people get it so easily, doctors prescribe so willingly, i guess what people do is they smash it up so when they swallow it, it gets absorbed into the stomach faster than normal and gives them some heroin type high (from what i read).

it gets addicting i guess, many people in the field, like nurses and doctors have to be in on the deal here because so many people get it so easily.

but suing the makers???? give me a break, they made a drug that has given many people a great relief when properly used, that is not their fault if people use it for other means improperly. people can and do use many things improperly, that is not the makers fault if someone misuses a product. those people should be held accountable for their actions.

"its not my fault, its someone elses" attitude again.

"Why not sue the FDA? They approved it for use."

Because it is an excellent pain killer, and there are millions of Americans with legitimate injuries that it helps. That's another gripe I have with idiots who abuse useful prescription drugs. They make it more difficult for people who are hurting to get proper pain management!

People with REAL chronic pain often need synthetic opiates to function. They can also be useful for short-term pain control.

I had a trapezius strain recently that was so painful the ER folks gave me Dilaudid! I used it properly, didn't become a junkie, and flushed the leftovers after I didn't need it any more. I shouldn't be stuck with Motrin because stupid people do stupid things.

My comment was tounge-in-cheek. I don't think anyone should be suing anyone over this. And i certainly would not want to see a lawsuit make it difficult on those who need the medication to obtain it.These plaintiffs are out of their mind to try to sue .
