i have nothing against the darkside , but i am a little tired of the small block chevy in everything .there are to many various types of engines from many different manufacturers to be so dain narrow minded if you are going to go dark . what's wrong with an early olds or caddy , maybe { i got this one from seeing one and the gent was kind enough to let me measure and see if it would fit my effie's bay } a lincoln v-12 flathead . how about an early hemi , or a studey ? personally unless it's an early hemi as that is one of those i've wanted for a long time , i'll stick with my fords in a ford as i have this thing for flatty's , fe's and 429's that just wont go away . so after all my rambling it is up to each person as it is after all they're vehicle .
Got an SBC in mine, but it came with the front suspension, tranny, tilt column, radiator, wiring harness, brake booster and disc brake rear end out of the donor, so it seemed like such a waste not to use it!
I used the motor that came with the frame my F-800's sitting on. It's a Ford frame, with a Ford dressed and standard CAT motor. My other Fords ('55 F-350 express, '48-50 P-?, '64 Falcon 2dr sport hard top) all have their original Ford motors. To each his own, it's custom, so it really doesn't matter what's under the hood. I do have to agree with 55 F-350 though, there really aren't any new and innovative things that can be done to a Ford F-1/100 anymore, it's been done, and I do agree too that the SBC in everything is so overdone, that it really seems like just another Ford truck with a C***y motor in it and it's really not exciting anymore.
A better question would be "why do people feel compelled to put a Chevy engine in a Ford?" I have my own opinions but it would be interesting to hear from others...especially those who bleed blue.
Mine will always be a Ford in a Ford except for the Model T Rod that came with a sbc.
Too dang other many projects in the way to change it to the way it should be......Other wise it would be history, a Flattie would be so sweet.

I'm a Ford man and bleed blue, but this subject is old. I'm not participating in the poll because it doesn't prove anything. How is this suppose to make a person with a "other than Ford" in his truck feel? There's too many people in here with tons of information on the old trucks and who are "darksiders". Some of which are old timers with thousands of posts. I hate to see hard feeling here. It doesn't belong here. I think everyone has proven their point here. I suggest we move on to something else.

I feel great knowing that I can put whatever I want under the hood of my effie, one of the reasons I chose my Mercedes diesel engine was for fuel economy and the other was the need to be different from the crowd.

I couldn't have said it better myself! I have a sbc in mine for now, but as I said ASAP I plan on changin it out! I wish I hadnt' put it in, but it's in there and I don't want to take it apart right now, with all the other projects I have to do.
My 52 came with a Chevy. My father in-law and his son raced it at the drags. Old Lyons Drag Strip here in the LA area. I think I'll leave it for now. It can drop a pair of racing stripes with one little push of the right foot most anytime. Maybe to balance things out, I'll buy a Chevy and put a Ford in it!
Actually I'm finding the polls interesting. Out of 18 responders on the 67-72 forum there are 0 'other brand' entries as of this moment.
This forum currently has 25% 'other brand' powerplants. That's a significant difference between the two forums.
Now I'm wondering why? I suspect it has more to do with sheetmetal thickness and general workability, attitude toward the newer trucks that aren't considered hotrod material yet, and many of which still have their original engines unlike the trucks in this forum, etc, etc. I suspect if this poll was posted in the 61-66 forum it would slide somewhere between these two.
While mine are all Ford, I enjoy the statistical aspect of questions like it. Hope you guys keep the flames down.
I do not have Ford power in my truck. I am running 500 cubic inches of pure testosterone, ball scratchin', beer swillin' greasy fingernailed, he-man, macho Cadillac power in my 49. Personally I don't care what people use for power in their trucks. There are alot of very cool powerplants out there that would be right at home under the hoods of old Ford trucks. Flatheads, "Y" blocks, nailheads, hemis, a myriad of diesel engines, straight 6's, V-10's, etc
My question is, why do you assume its a Chevy engine in the truck if its not a ford?
I think the small block chevy is a great engine! I've owned them, raced, them cussed them, etc. It just wouldnt be my first choice for an engine transplant into anything besides a Chevy. My thoughts are that putting a small block chevy into something shows a general lack of imagination. There are exceptions...if its what you have laying about, if you're on a super tight budget, if the truck came with it or was already set up for it....that sort of thing. If you are blindly stuffing a small block chevy into something just because thats what everybody else does, because thats what every custom car you have ever seen in any magazine you have ever read has in it, because you don't know any better.....then thats when I get cranky.
For those of you on this board that have small block chevys in your trucks.....Don't be ashamed!! I know most of you from your postings here on this board, there isn't a man among you that should be ashamed of your trucks.
(stepping off of the soapbox)..............where's the cooler? I think its frosty beverage time
