Hello All,need help with casting numbers?
<HR style="COLOR: #666666" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message --><TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">hi guys and gals, need some help with casting numbers, believed to be a 429 out of a 69 t-bird, it reads C8VE F YES F NOT A or E. The second line in the LETTER F seems to carry beyond the vertical line, under that is backward OR MIRROW IMAGE numbers 064 AND under that is 1, ANY THOUGHTS?
ON the head under valve between 3rd and 4th valve is number C8VE E Meaning 68 thunder jet head 385 series is this correct,ALSO the connecting rods has C8VE E Stamped on them?
Need some help with this one, want to order new rings/bearings etc for a rebuild want to make sure what engine it is, any help would be grateful thxs.
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
The c8ve-a or e were cast in '68 the c9ve-a heads were started in '69. Most likely the motor is a '68 but either way it is a high compression 429 thunderjet engine . The c8ve and c9ve were very similar except for some minor casting differences. Basically all 385 series engines are the same when it comes to rebuild kits especially in the older carb. engines. The same rings, bearings, and gaskets span a good many years for the 460's and 429's so parts are easy and relatively cheap to get.
