FE Head question
I am rebuilding a 352 that was built for marine use (1965 Century). Upon teardown I noticed that I had a mis-matched pair of heads. The engine had a valve job done years back by a Ford garage and I remember they replaced a head due to a crack. The original head is a C4AE-6090-G and the replacment head on the other side was a C6AE-R. They apear identical except I noticed that the exhaust ports on the C6AE-R were not as tall as the C4AE-6090-G. The exhaust manifolds that the engine uses have ports that match the taller exhaust port.
I would assume I should find a matched set, either way. Any suggestions between the two, or am I better off with the C4AE-6090-G because it has the taller ports?
Thanks,
Mark
Both heads are good heads the C6AE-R is also called the poor mans Cobra Jet head as it was installed on virtually any engine in 1966 and 1967, yes this means more than just the 352. And it can be fitted with CJ valves to be virtually identical to the cobra jet head. It has been found in both cars and pickups. The C4AE-G head was used on a lot of engines too and is likely to be more common as it was a standard head whereas the C6AE had several versions at the same time such as the C6AE-J which was on my 410. I would say find another C4AE-G head, with a good valve job I've seen flow bench numbers that nearly rival the bigger valve CJ head. And there are two different exhaust ports one being lower than the other as emmisions stuff started.
