i found out from a friend that i should have a 4x4 lock light on my 78 f250 with a np205. He said it should be on the dash, but i have never saw one on any of my friends trucks, but dad said he had one his truck and said he it wasnt on the instrument cluster. I was wondering where it should be and if i dont have a light for it, if it possible to find the wire for it so i can put a light bulb on it. So if anyone has a picture of it and has the wire diagram for it that would would very helpful.
ive seen them before.they were mounted under the dash near the ash tray if i recall correctly. my truck does not have it. im not sure what trucks,or years had them.
In my 78' owners manual it shows it as a "transfer case lock warning light
In my 78' owners manual it indicates it as the "Transfer case lock warning light (Full time 4-wheel drive)" in the diagram pointing out the features of the dash. Makes me think its only for trucks equiped with the full time 4x4 feature. It also notes in the 4wd section that the brightness of the light is controlled by the light switch.
I do not remember any kind of switch (micro or otherwise) located on the case or linkage of my NP205 when I took it out and back in. I do remember seeing the light in wiring diagrams though. My guess is that it is for trucks with NP203s.
it's in my '76 highboy, on the bottom, center of the dash
blue, "lock" on lens
203 transfer case, switch that mounts to transfer case is no longer available, so I found out, from Ford or anywhere else(a ball-plunger type on-off switch)
my switch died, has a plug in the hole now
yes it looks like an aftermarket "add on" but it is OE
I've got one in my 75, but it has a NP203. The PO disconnected it and put it in the glovebox. All it is is a rectangular piece of plastic with metal trim around it that sits just below the ashtray. I didn't even know about these until one day at the junkyard, I was looking through a 74 F250 that was there and it was still connected to the dash. (Score!) So I just pulled the whole thing off, to include the wiring harness. It has a turquoise like blue wire and it comes out of the firewall approximately below the steering column if I recall, and continues all the way to the xfer case on the left hand side. Million helped me out a while back identifying it. I don't know if it works or not, because I haven't got that far on the restore. I can send you pic if needed or just put one in my gallery to show people what they look like. I did some asking around and I hear that alot of people took them off because of people hitting their knees on it or getting in the way of their CB install.
