thats about the best pics i could get. i took them with my phone, so....
and i also have a National Parts Depot Catalog and according to them i should have a dana 60 with 3.54 gear ratio. and that id tag thats on there is completely unreadable. i have used multiple wire brushes, degreasers, etc and its just too old and beatup.
no dana 30's ever in the rear of a 3/4 ton truck.period more than likely its a 60,as far as i know 85 was the first year for the stearling, yup looks like a 60 to me.if ya want orund the edge's where its like 45degree gusets around the center, scrape off the grease you'll see a 60 cast into it

Almost positive thats a D60. If you want to be absolutely sure of the gear ratio, pop off the cover, and cound the number of teath on the pinion gear as well as the ring gear. then devide the tooth count on the ring gear by the count on the pinion, for example, 40 teath on the ring gear and 10 on the pinion would be 40/10=4.10 gear ratio.
you will hate your truck with 2.73 gears remember you have a 4.9 six cylinder not a diesel or even a 5.8 v8 try to find a taller tire to try. 3/4 ton trucks DO NOT get good gas milage as a rule I wouldn't go much more than a 3.23 and taller tires you can get bad milage lugging a motor. I've had 300 sixes one 1/2 ton with the 4spd over drive tranny it did great on gas but you couldn't use the od until you got above 50mph or the thing would bogg and ping. The one I have now is a 3/4 ton 3.54 gears with the truck 4spd like you have it seems to be a good combo as far as power to weight milage is around 15 hwy ,not great but will still pull my boat with out getting a hernia
what have you done to it to get 15? im looking at like 11 on a great day. is it maybe due to the old 1 bbl carb? will a offy intake manifold and 2 or 4 bbl help? my goals are better gas milage and better highway driveability.
