I am looking to mount a cb antenna on each mirror like the big trucks do. I have the trailer tow mirrors and was curious if anyone knew of a good way to this without messing up the mirrors.
I dont know a good way but i really wanted to do the exact same thing. I like they way they look. If u do post some pics. I saw an ex the other day though with this setup and it looks like the antenna was mounted on the mirrior by two bolts. One bolt on the upper arm and one on the bottom.
I was reading about this in a different forum the other day, and they recommended against it (I think its looks cool too actually)
The arguments were that
•you would need to run a second wire for a ground plane because the mirror won't act as one
•An antenna of any length is going to put a lot of torsional stress on the mirror in a way that it wasn't designed to, possibly leading to premature failure.
In the end, I put a ball mount on the back bumper on the left side with a 102" whip. It works well, and as long as you leave the little clip on the door on that side so it doesn't open more than 90?, there's no problem with it hitting the door.
Just an idea
I have seen someone on here with a hood mount as well, but I don't remember who it was. I think it was made by K40, but im not sure.
Just bite the bullet like me and drill the roof. I have three seperate antennas on the roof not including the 5 for my satillite recievers. The roof is the best ground plane that you can get. Add that to a juiced up CB and you can go for a long range.

as bad as I hate to drill holes in my vehicle that is about the only way to have a good working cb especially if you run any power
mirror mounts only work good on tractor trailers
even on my dump trucks to get a low swr the antenna had to be mounted on cab protector

I agree. alot of guys seem like its a big deal to drill a hole in the roof. I have never had a problem with my antennas mounted on the roof. I dont run a cb, but have two way radio and phone antenna up there.

.............Get a trunk mount bracket and a K40 with a wip about 5 feet long,on the driver's side mount the bracket as far up as possible close to the hinge area on the hood, has a rubber spacer to save the paint on the top side and the set screw's underneth get you your ground ,this set up also get's the SWR down to 1 to 1,the cable just goes through the fire wall useing one of the rubber boot's that just snap back in,vary easy to do and it look's clean when your done,no hole's to drill and you dont have to mess with the headliner, this will tend to push the signal forward and to the right some where as mounted in the center of the roof is the best for a 360 degree signal,it's your call, but it work's for me and is vary easy to do.
isn't running any more than 4 watts on a CB illegal anyway (SSB excluded)? If im correct, its a serious federal offense, but not that anyone's checking... lol
