So the viper security systems work great. It doesn't screw up the power door locks or anything like that does it. Can I unlock the doors from the remote it comes with.
The ONLY thing I have problems with is that sometimes it doesn't like me starting the car with the keys but I don't even do that anymore, I just hit the button on the remote.
I love it but it only comes with ONE remote and they're over 100 bucks if you want another one. Ie, you lose it and you're screwed.
You can leave the engine running and go into the store and still lock the car or leave it unlocked. If someone tries to drive off and they key is NOT in the ignition, it shuts down. If you start it remotely and don't do anything for 10-15 mins it shuts off.
Reach is AMAZING! I HIGHLY recommend it. YOu'll just have to get used to when you start remotely, to put the key in and turn it BEFORE you touch the brakes or it WILL shut down and you have to start it again which is a pain. Took me awhile, hehehe
The remote is small too AND it confirms everything it does. AAA battery lasts about a month or so which is pretty cool.
If one of the sensors goes off, it WILL let you know.
Also, I have a sensor in my car that is hooked up to it so I can set it to start the car at a certain temperature
If I get a security system, I'm not going to get the remote start, just the security system. That problem you have with the key not being able to start it, do you think that it can be fixed.
My installer says that it's with the keys and the chip inside so I'm not sure. It IS a bit irritating but bottom line is, I need the remote to start it anyway and if I don't have the remote, I ain't going anywhere so bottom line is, it really doesn't matter to me.
Why do you not want the remote start? It's sweet and it's cool to start it up and warm up the engine before you ride and in the summer, you can leave the AC on.

I really don't care for remote start. All I want is a very good security system.
Well, I don't know how good it is as I don't think anyone has attempted to steal anything but those two blue led's in the dash that the guy installed probably didn't hurt

Since I live in L.A., my mechanic and I have been thinking about this one and here is what we/he came up with:
1. I do have a Viper on it now.
2. Kill switch tied into an oil pump sensor (I think). I have a Powerstroke. No oil pressure = automatic shutdown. What ever the sensor or pump is it won't throw a code. So if the thief has a code scanner... nothing.
3. My '01 X is fly by wire (No linkage). He has installed a disruptive switch in line from the throttle sensor. This is in here so that if they do get it started, it will be a slow getaway.
We did spend some time talking about the PATS system (your key and mine). Mustangs have this or a very similar system and they are stolen too. We have actually disabled it on my X. It got in the way of some of the programming modifications that we were doing. Now I don't have to get any more $80.00 keys, but the thief won't know that.
In the end, if they really want it, they'll get it. I just hope to slow them down a bit and give me and my friends (S&W) some time to see if we can't come to a compromise.
