consider this as a possibility. One of the many reasons these late model expensive cars are being broken into, is someone wants to steal them, not just their contents.
Fortunately, the computer system in our Ford products is ALMOST unbeatable. You either have the correct key, or the car simply cannot be started.
Now, obviously, you throw enough talent and equipment at a problem, and it can be solved. Really industrious car thieves are going to come and take it away on a "roll-on" type trailer, disconnecting the drive shafts rather than breaking the steering column.
And/or they may have aquired a working computer and key for that computer's "codes", remove yours, install theirs, and simply drive awy.
In any case, there is no substitute for being a BIT paranoid, and trying, as much as possible, to reduce your exposure. That means THINKING about where you are leaving the vehicle.
Another thought - armor-plate the door mechanism, and they will break something else to get in. What do you want broken ?
There are also some billet replacement handles that are solid metal, but they're not cheap. Here's a link to another thread on the same issue frm the other day... I have links and pictures posted in the thread that show how the handles look and where you can find them.
Can these door handles be painted to match the rest of the exterior, my Excursion is black with black door handles and if I put aftermarket door handles I'd like to get them painted black, I don't want them to be chrome or anything like that I just want them black.

Well, not sure I understand this but you're saying they will make a key to get into my car?
I have a remote starter and the damn thing barely lets me start my car with MY original keys, let alone with copies. It's such a pain in the ***, i barely use my keyes anymore, I just hit the remote start button on my remote..

I dont think you understood my post. You can make all the duplicate keys you want - If you have Ford's (optional on some models) anti-theft system, if the key dosnt "send" the "code" -( a minature transponder signal )- the car wont start. Only a key that has been "authorized" by the car's computer's anti-theft system will start that particular car.
I must have understood because that's what happens on mine but it's so damn sensitive or something that half the time my keys won't work and I have to use my remote and they are ALL made by Ford

Is there a difference in protection/effectiveness? i know the Viper has more bells and whisltes, but I've also heard aftermarket systems can interfere w/ the door keypad.
Also, does the Ford system plug right into the harness or do you have to splice wires?

Just wondering what you guys thought.
Thats a good question, what one is better. I'd still like to know if no those door handles can be painted.
Thanks
If a thief wants it bad enough they will get it.....I agree something that draws the most attention is the best deterrent. With time a good thief will defeat an anti theft system. If they don't have the time to do the job they will move onto an easier vehicle.
